Chronicle-2011

119 BASKETBALL U16 A The team didn’t suffer from a dear th of talent and yet was never able to put in polished performances during the opening season. But they did grind out some very enter taining victories. A number of the players have vast potential and with the necessary dedication and hard work they will develop into quality basketball players. The team was coached by Nhlanhla Dlamini during the opening season and only lost one game: a narrow one to Westville and they looked to build on this success. The team changed coaches in the closing season and there were extensive changes to the team due to boys going on exchange and moving up to the 1st team. In spite of this the team played well, and won their first couple of games. Unfor tunately, they then faltered and lost games that should have been easy victories. Michael Campbell RESULTS Played: 11 Won: 7 Lost: 4 U16 B/C This group of boys began the year as very raw basketball players, but after some laborious practises sor ting out the basics they improved enormously and their results reflect this. The team’s character was epitomised by the hard fought win over DHS in the closing season. It was very rewarding seeing these players improve during the year and they must be commended on their effor ts. Wayne Amos RESULTS Played: 13 Won: 7 Lost: 6 U15 A The team had a slow opening season but as they grew in confidence and belief, skill and ability, so the team gathered momentum. They logged some hard-fought victories against Maritzburg and Hilton that revealed their character. In theWestville game the team was dominated by the physical approach that Westville used. The closing season was phenomenal due to the players committing themselves to improving their fundamental skills during the off-season.They swept away all opposition. But the highlight was a devastating one point loss to top basketball school, DHS. This level of play bodes well for the 2012 season. Nhlanhla Dlamini RESULTS Played: 12 Won: 8 Lost: 4 U15 B/C The boys made vast improvements between the two seasons. This resulted in some impressive results towards the end of the closing season. The highlight must be beating DHS at home. It has been a fun, actionpacked time and interacting with so many unique personalities has been a personal highlight. I wish the squad every success next year.
