Chronicle-2011

128 2NDTEAM The team had a very successful year, losing only 3 matches during the course of the year and recording 2 wins against Maritzburg College, the second one by 10 wickets! I was for tunate to be able to call on the services of 5 matric boys, Cameron Thompson,West Maddox, Dan Botha, Michael Hodnett and Dylan Delpor t, who played right through to the end of the year, even during their final examinations. These boys played with the pride and passion that one expects from a Kearsney boy and my sincerest thanks go to them for their commitment. With a miserly bowling attack, opposition batsmen were never able to score easily and this side bowled out their opposition more often than not. The batting was solid, right down to number 11, and good scores abounded allowing the side to set good targets. Dan Botha, who has a good knowledge of the game, captained well and led from the front. The boys all played with commitment and passion and I feel privileged to have worked with them. With a number of boys staying on next year, the 2nd XI looks set to have a good year in 2012. Gareth Moerdyk RESULTS Played: 11 Won: 7 Lost: 3 Drew: 1 3RDTEAM This was a very successful 3rd XI that played positive, attractive and attacking cricket. They lost only 2 matches during the season and were very well captained by Michael Steel. In the first term they recorded a long awaited win against Maritzburg College and only lost to them by 8 runs in the 4th term. They also amassed a massive 385/5 in 30 overs against Northwood in the first term. In this match Simon Hudson destroyed the bowlers sending the ball into the parking area sending panic-stricken drivers to move their vehicles. He earned selection to 1st XI where he excelled later in the year. The team’s approach to the game was excellent and their sportsmanship blossomed. They were a pleasure to coach and umpire. Kevin Smith RESULTS Played: 9 Won: 7 Lost: 2 5THTEAM The 5th team only played matches during the first term due to the unavailability of the matric boys. However, the boys had an enjoyable season, winning two out of their four matches. The boys loved their cricket and the team was well captained by Thando Mathe. The shining bowling performance came from Brad Starkey’s 4/50 vs Hilton and the star batting performance was Thando Mathe’s 71 vs Westville. Rod de Villiers
