This set the tone for the rest of the season with another win in Foursomes with a weakened team and then a nail-biter final match we narrowly lost. The team showed great depth with a variety of players proving successful over the course of the season. Martin Rohwer was a quiet captain who often provided a solid platform for the team. At the end of the season Kearsney came out tops beatingWestville by 2 points and winning the league trophy for the second time in three years. RESULTS Played: 18 Won: 14 Lost: 3 Drew: 1 Durban and District B League Sadly, the second team could not sustain their grip on the trophy this year and were narrowly pipped byWestville. The fact that they often supplied players to the 1st team no doubt took its toll. RESULTS Played: 12 Won: 8 Lost: 2 Drew: 2 St John’s International schools’ golf challenge One of the highlights for the senior players is this annual tournament at Sun City. A relatively young team was selected to participate this year. The team consisted of grade 11, Devlin Tyack, grade 10s Greg Royston and Alex Alber tse and grade 9, James Kennedy. The tournament is played over 4 days with the team playing two rounds at the Lost City and two rounds on the Gary Player. Greg and James played well on day 1 shooting a level par at the Lost City and only 1 over par at Gary Player on day 2. In the final two rounds the boys played individual Stabelford off a scratch handicap and found the going challenging. The team finished tie 24th out of 32 schools. The highlight of the week was Greg’s hole in one at the 4th hole on Gary Player. KZN Schools’ Golf Championship: Victoria Country Club Although we had the potential on paper, the boys failed to hold their nerve in this stiff competition. Martin played an excellent standard of golf and, for the second time, won the 36 hole event by four shots.
