Chronicle-2011

136 Greg and Cameron Byrne did enough to be selected for the KZN Schools’ U18 A team with Martin not able to be selected due to school commitments. Greg and Cameron played the inter provincial in Parys during the September holidays. Greg enjoyed great success finishing strongly in the final round to come 5th overall. He was rewarded for his efforts by being selected for the SA Schools U18 golf side to play against the SA University side in October. Internal Competitions and Awards This year the Dads and Lads competition was replaced with a golf tour. We ventured up to the Limpopo province in the July holidays and were privileged to play at Elements, Euphoria, Legends and Zebula. We were exposed to some great courses and good company. Thanks to Marco Botha for assisting in driving us, Andy Bean for organising the courses at superb rates and John Riddle for organising some great prices on accommodation. The school championships were held over 36 holes at Cotswold Downs at the end of September. It proved to a fairly one sided affair as Greg Royston ran away from the rest of the field and won by 9 shots. Greg McKay finished in second place. In the matchplay that followed the Gregs proved to be too strong for their opposition. It was a close affair until Royston won 4 and 3 while 2 under par up after 15 holes. Royston has to be commended for his efforts this year. He has worked hard at his game and been rewarded with some great results. McKay, after joining us in the third term, was awarded the trophy for Best Junior of 2011. My thanks go toWayne Marsden for his continued and professional support in managing the 2nd team. More juniors are starting to find their way to the course the future of golf at Kearsney looks good. Bruce Thompson AWARDS Inter house trophy: Finningley Honours: Mar tin Rohwer (re-award), Cameron Byrne, Gregory Royston
