Lamber t capitalised on another penalty to lock the scores at 12 all for some time. Westville added another penalty after sustained pressure to take the lead of 15 – 12. Kearsney put in a last surge during which they were awarded two kickable penalties but failed to conver t to leave the final score at 12 – 15. The next week we hosted Glenwood: the top team in KZN for the last four years. Kearsney players were keen to redeem themselves from the poor performance the week before and prepared well during the week. Kearsney enjoyed territorial advantage in the first 25 minutes and James Lamber t was successful with three penalties to take a 9 – 0 lead. Shor tly after the kick off Glenwood was awarded a penalty close to the Kearsney 22 which was conver ted for Glenwood to take the halftime lead 10 – 9. Midway through the second half Glenwood scored the second try with good interplay from the backs and forwards. Kearsney fought back nicely and eventually opted for a lineout from a very kickable penalty. The decision paid off as JL du Preez scored from the driving maul with Lambert conver ting for Kearsney to take a 16 – 15 lead with 10 minutes left to play. In the 34th minute Glenwood was awarded a scrum in their half and they took full advantage of an unfor tunate Kearsney defensive pattern error to score an unconver ted try in the right hand corner. Maritzburg College was next. In perfect rugby conditions at the kick off, College took the early lead with two penalties. Kearsney exer ted good pressure and Matt Reece-Edwards sniped from a ruck on the College 22 to offload to Chad Myburgh for a deserving try that was not conver ted. Kearsney dominated territorially and was awarded another 2 penalties which were conver ted by James Lambert to take the halftime lead of 16 – 6. College exer ted pressure at the beginning of the second half and only resolute defence denied them tries. The desperate Kearsney defenders conceded two penalties which were conver ted by the College goal kicker. Kearsney worked themselves back into the game and a turnover by Brendan Clements saw fly half du Preez playing wide to lock and brother Daniel who offloaded neatly to Kubeka on a very clever angle to beat the fullback with an inside step to score under the poles. Lamber t conver ted for a 23 – 12 lead. The Kearsney forwards displayed some good driving play and prop Matthew Jones scored the four th unconver ted, try in the last minute of the match for a resounding 28 – 12 victory. Next was the Johannesburg trip to St Stithians. From the kick off Kearsney exer ted great pressure and was awarded a penalty which was kicked to the corner for a lineout drive. The
