With some good wins, par ticularly those over rivals Hilton and Michaelhouse, as well as the convincing win over Glenwood. They can be very proud of their effor ts. Of the three losses, the Maritzburg College one was a particularly narrow 2 pointer. Other games were strewn with missed oppor tunities and the boys perhaps rue the decisions they made on the day. The tour during the Easter holidays, with a depleted squad, gave some boys the oppor tunity to show off their skills and force their way into the starting side for the remainder of the season. This team played exciting, competitive rugby, refusing to back down to any opposition. The side was well-led by Matthew Militz and Dayne Kennedy, ably helped by the other experienced matrics. I wish all the boys well and thank them for a great season. Gareth Moerdyk RESULTS Played: 10 Won: 7 Lost: 3 3RDTEAM The team had a 78% win rate over a long and gruelling season. We scored 342 points and only conceded 177. As stats would go, this season was a high scoring affair with great success. The fixture list was not easy but the boys were well motivated and driven by their field captain Luke Norris. Two great wins against George Campbell and St Charles 2nd teams proved that these boys had the ability to play at 2nd team level. The highlight of the season has to be the win against Glenwood. We were 5-20 down with 9 minutes to play. It took a resounding team talk behind the pole by Luke Norris to fire up the boys and we managed the impossible for a 22-20 win. In every team there is a heart-pumping energy that lifts the team when the odds are against you. Luke Norris was that hear t. Luke did not show the way – but led the team. His ability to get the best out of the boys made my job as coach a lot easier. Without him this successful season would not have been possible. His courage, determination and hear t will live in me personally and in every Kearsney 3rd team 2011 rugby player forever. Dean Moodley RESULTS Played: 10 Won: 7 Lost: 2 Drew: 1 4THTEAM The 4th team had a very successful season. The forwards provided a solid base from first phase and the backline used the ball well. They were a pleasure to coach and scored some memorable tries. Kevin Smith RESULTS Played: 10 Won: 8 Lost: 2 5TH TEAM Over 43 different players played for this team in its 10 fixtures. Unfor tunately, this is the curse of the middle team and we felt the knockon effects of injuries rather heavily. That said, the boys showed resilience and maintained their style of play. This allowed many of them to function in higher teams comfor tably. They played fast, creative and exciting rugby, often falling shor t by mere centimetres from scoring those game sealing tries. The captain Gareth Cole, Jonathan Powell, Murray Polkinghorn, andWillem Brooks should be commended for playing more than 80% of the fixtures. Guy Mitchell RESULTS Played: 10 Won: 3 Lost: 7
