Chronicle-2011

The hard work put into preseason strength and conditioning was evident from the outset. This was the case throughout the season. It must be said that the team was unfor tunate to lose players on a regular basis to injuries at critical times throughout the season. The result was that it never really settled as a unit but this didn’t deter us and we remained determined and willing. The team had some outstanding performances. The highlight was the match against Glenwood. The team played outstanding rugby in the 1st half to run in three tries to lead 17-5 at the break. In the second half, Glenwood played all the rugby with our boys defending as if their lives depended on it. It was the most exciting game of the season with Kearsney running out eventual winners 20-17. There were many standout performances, but mention must be made of two players, Bevan Jackson and Mitch du Toit, who were not regular A team players but who improved to such an extent that the team were reliant on their presence by the end of the season. It was also most rewarding to have Biaggo Pelliccia and Nkosikhona Dlamini selected to represent the KZN U16 team at the Grant KhomoWeek. My thanks are extended to the players for their dedication and commitment as well as the parents for their suppor t during the season. Keith Thompson RESULTS Played: 13 Won:11 Lost: 2 U16 B The team’s strengths lay in its ability to move the ball wide with pace on the wings and also to have a mobile pack which was able to move the ball through the loose passes with ease. Jarred Hayes-Hill provided good clean lineout ball for the backs to run off and Chris Lines proved a very reliable goal kicker. TheWestville game is the one that will live in our memories as the one that we gave away when we were clearly the better team. But it was pleasing to watch the team’s character develop when adversity came in the last few games. The team was ably captained by Jarred Hays-Hill and Ryan van der Waal and Rory Bell, who took over when both of captains were called up to the A team.
