These boys held their own in the scrums and lineouts in every game of the season. Their ability to win second phase ball and to carry this ball forward meant that the backs had space in which to move. The three quar ters ran with determination and their handling skills under pressure resulted in some excellent tries. The team attended the U15 Independent Schools’ Rugby festival held at St Andrews in Grahamstown. Although only one of the three games was won, the tour was thoroughly enjoyed by the boys. Highlights of the season were the 36-14 victory against St Stithians under floodlights, a game in which the team played its best rugby of the season; and the 12-8 win against Michaelhouse with a try in the final minutes. This was a fine group of young men and I thoroughly enjoyed coaching them. It is difficult to single out individuals, but special mention must be made of Jesse Rich, an excellent young captain who led from the front in every game. Mike Albers RESULTS Played 13 Won 8 Loss 5 U15 B The team cer tainly improved as the season progressed and there is much potential to build on in the future. While effor t was seldom lacking, there were times when they did not function as a team which cost them in some of the closer matches. That said, the team was never disgraced even though there were some hefty. The hear tbreak of the season came against St Stithians in Johannesburg where they lost 5-7. The team was very ably led by Patrick Zietkiewicz, whose enthusiasm never wavered and who always led by example. Dave Graves RESULTS Played: 9 Won: 1 Lost: 8 U15 C The team had a very successful season and improved tremendously on their previous season’s results. They bonded as a team almost immediately and their attitude towards one another, and the game, was exceptional. An extremely strong tight five and an aggressive loose trio allowed the backs to work their magic. The highlights of the season included a gutsy victory over Glenwood and a nail biting win over Maritzburg College. The Mighty U15 Cs (and the 1st team) were the only two sides to beat Maritzburg this year.
