Between them they took the first two places in almost every open swimming event. These two swimmers contributed 221 of Gillingham’s winning total of 562 points. This year only eight records were broken, 6 by Brett and 2 by Murray, and the two now hold 35 out of the 41 records between them. Finningley (443), Sheffield (428) and Pembroke (398) were left to battle it out for the minor places. It has been quite a while since a house so dominated this event. Brett showed his mettle this year and was awarded 10 trophies including: Senior Victor Ludorum and Best Performance of the day for winning the Sprint Challenge in a new record time. This turned the tables on Murray who took 10 trophies last year. Other notable winners on the day were Luke Couzens (Gillingham - best U14), Andries Schoeman (Finningley - best U15 and Junior Victor Ludorum), Ryan van der Waal (Finningley - best U16) and Nathan Sparks (Pembroke - best U17). One of the highlights of the day is the 20-man relay for the notso-serious-swimmers and Pembroke managed to defend their trophy successfully for the 2nd year. Midmar Mile 2011 Kearsney swimmers have generally done well in the event, regularly producing top results, but due to the event falling in the middle of a hectic school gala season, many boys opted to take a break and therefor no outstanding results were achieved. Old Boy, Myles Brown, did Kearsney proud by coming 5th overall. Andries Schoeman had a very good day and achieved 3rd place in the 14 year old category and 45th overall. Fellow Kearsney swimmer and training par tner Ciaran Gray grabbed 4th position and 47th overall. Other notable results were Daniel Marsden (46th),Thomas Rich (103rd) and Brett Walsh cruising to 109th position. Kearsney was well represented by staff and as many as five successfully completed the race.Well done to Zastra Conway-Nunn,Wendy o’ Connor, Sandy Dunnett, Karen Seals and Rod de Villiers.
