This page is sponsored by: Rainer and Bjorn Steinhagen 175 We have some really exciting junior players and can look forward to a positive and successful future. Kearsney plays against the top schools in South Africa in 3 National high profile tournaments. This year Kearsney hosted the 16th Top Schools festival, now the oldest and most prestigious of the festivals. Paul Roos Festival: Stellenbosch (April) This festival is played over 3 days and 12 schools participated this year. Unfor tunately, the experienced Kearsney team did not live up to our expectations. For such a talented team their result was an eye-opener.To be fair all the matches that we lost were very close competitive affairs. RESULTS vs Paul Roos lost 8 to 1 vs Pretoria Boys won 6 to 3 vs Clifton lost 5 to 4 vs Affies lost 5 to 4 vs Cradock won 5 to 4 vs St Benedicts (Gauteng) lost 5 to 4 vs Stellenbosch won 5 to 4. Kearsney Festival (May) The headline for this festival could well read: “Paul Rood serves an ace…again” as they cemented their total dominance of schools tennis. It is the 8th time in 10 years that Paul Roos has won the Festival – a phenomenal record. Their clinical play left the remaining teams scrambling for 2nd position. After a devastating final Affies claimed the position followed by St Stithians, Glenwood, Clifton, Kearsney, Grey (Bloem) and Selborn. Grey College Festival: Bloemfontein (October) Kearsney was the only team from KwaZulu-Natal invited to take par t in the festival. Other participating schools were Affies,Waterkloof, St Stithians and Pretoria Boys from Gauteng; Paul Roos and Paarl Boys from theWestern Cape, and the hosts: Grey Bloem. Due to the loss of the matric players the team was green but it was an excellent oppor tunity to gain experience. The calibre of tennis played by these young players was fantastic and it bodes well for the future. Kearsney lost to Paul Roos, the winners of the tournament, Grey College and Pretoria Boys.We beat Paarl Boys High. In the play-off for 5th and 6th position, Kearsney lost again to Pretoria Boys. 1ST TERM vs Maritzburg College 1st team won 9 to 0; 2nd team won 9 to 0 vsWestville Boys 1st team won 6 to 3; 2nd team won 9 to 0 vs Hilton College 1st team won 7 to 2; 2nd team won 8 to 1 vs Michaelhouse 1st team won 9 to 0; 2nd team won 9 to 0 TENNIS 1ST TEAM BACK LEFT: E Vij, D Sandy, J Devine, C Slabbert, N Andrew, K Foss FRONT LEFT: Mr J Temlett(Ass Coach), D Koenig (Capt), M Olivier, Mr A Willows(Coach) TENNIS
