Chronicle-2011

Saturday 5th March 2011 saw the final step in the transformation of the Henderson Hall into a Spanish bull fighting arena. The facade was erected with the help of Kearsney dads and finishing touches were added to the entrance of the hall including a magnificent metal bull and an ornate water feature. The foyer was laid with 120 concrete pavers interspersed with many kilograms of white stones to create a Spanish courtyard complete with a fountain, tables and chairs and red rose petals strewn across the floor. The matric dance committee of twenty Grade 11 boys threaded crystal beads for the table decorations, painted the facade and Spanish figure silhouettes to decorate the bathrooms and painted many tiles to decorate the stairs. A smaller group of boys painted the stage back-drop of the matador and bull. The Kearsney moms were responsible for putting it all together and for the smallest of decor detail. The parent workforce dedicated four days of their time to ensure that the transformation was complete. Those hours of work included many laughs, litres of coffee and 100s of paper roses. The anticipation grew as the hour approached for the arrival of the matric boys and their partners. The hundreds of onlookers were not disappointed with the variety of transports used and the elegantly dressed couples, all befitting the formal occasion. The Spanish evening was over too quickly when the waiters were left to tidy up. They worked efficiently to dismantle, in a matter of hours, what took weeks to erect, ending their task just before 5am on Sunday morning.
