40 INTERNATIONAL Tours Escor ted by Ulaetha Singh, Dean Moodley and Myles Delport the group was in for an unexpected surprise with an unexpected stop in Dakkar, Senegal. We had a 36 hour delay which resulted an opportunity to enjoy the sun and sea on offer. The Kearsney boys rose to the challenge and turned what could have been a downer into a fun day at the beach before encountering the freezing cold of Washington and NewYork. Washington was our first US stop where the boys took in all the historical sites including: the Smithsonian museums; Arlington cemetery and the Lincoln memorial. The Drama boys had their first dramatic treat in the evenings seeing shows like Sheer Madness and the more classical Oscar Wilde An Ideal Husband. The boys were also treated to a basketball match at the Verizon Centre which was one of the highlights of the trip – the excitement of the game seems to have been equally balanced with the thrill of the gorgeous cheerleaders. The Drama boys were engaged in two exciting workshops which they thoroughly enjoyed. The boys were fascinated by the life-like models of celebrities in MadamTussaud’s and played at being spies at the Spy museum. On the way to NewYork we stopped at Six Flags Adventure Park in New Jersey where the boys were treated to a day on the awesome rides. NewYork was a dream for the boys. They were struck by the sheer novelty of the freedom and opportunity that the city offered. After the full day ‘funky tour’ of Manhattan, they were ready for the night’s offerings on Broadway: The Blue Man Group, Spiderman, Stomp and Fuerza Bruta were among the dramatic highlights for the group. The most memorable evening for the Drama boys was meeting Ben Stiller after his performance in The House of Blue Leaves. The workshops were appreciated by the boys and they had great fun exploring improvisation and stage combat. The boys came back with wonderful memories and were definitely enriched by their experience. They were praised for their manners and politeness by everyone they encountered. One of the workshop facilitators said that they were the reason he would want to visit South Africa! Top notch boys. Ulaetha Singh EGD & Drama tour to the USA A very excited group of 34 Kearsney boys left the shores of South Africa bound for the United States in April.
