The touring par ty consisted of the 1st XI and a young development team (the Greyhound XI) comprised of grade 9, grade 10 and grade 11 players. The group flew into Singapore where apar t from some sightseeing in the city they played 2 matches. The teams then drove into Malaysia and over the next 12 days traveled up the western coast stopping at exotic places such as Melaka, Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, Georgetown and Penang. Apar t from the matches and sightseeing, the boys had a coaching session with top Malaysian coaches. In Melaka the team visited a center for disabled children and did some community service. They also visited a shelter for abandoned children who had been physically or sexually abused. The boys provided them with supplies and worked in the garden, helped with cooking and spent time with the children: a very hear t-warming experience. The tour was an amazing experience in every aspect: good hockey, cheap food and shopping, very interesting sights and cultural differences to experience. Taking a junior team was very good for these boys. They learnt a lot and this will be an investment in the future of Kearsney hockey. Peter Kirsten
