Within that are some minijourneys and perhaps the scariest is the jump from Preparatory to College. This year we created a camp to help the new boys of 2012 develop a sense of belonging to Kearsney. Virtually all the new boys attended, remarkable given how far some of them had to travel. The boys were accommodated in Haley in the same beds they will occupy next year, so dorm friendships could be established almost immediately. All the activities were structured in order for the boys to familiarise themselves with all aspects of Kearsney as well as to get to know the prefects, some staff members and the campus. The prefects were central to the programme and did a wonderful job creating an atmosphere of friendly and efficient respect. The new boys left after the camp with a feeling of anticipation for next year. They seem to be a talented group of boys with whom we look forward to working. Their ‘rites of passage’ will be completed when they receive their school ties at a formal assembly at the beginning of 2012. Rod de Villiers My Bright Future
