53 KCOB our investment por tfolio had improved from R2,438,385 at 31 December 2009 to R2,780,703 at 31 December 2010 – an increase of R343,318 or 14% Our cash holdings remained steady decreasing slightly from R1,086,238 at 31 December 2009 to R1,074,184 at 31 December 2010 – a decrease of R12,054. Our second direct strategy was to continue to “baton down the hatches”. Expenditure has been tightly contained both as a measure against budget and otherwise. As a result of this, and also of revenue management, we have managed to growth the surplus before bursaries from R595,500 for 2009 to R686,071 for 2010, an increase of R90,571 some 15%.. The finances of the KCOB remain sound and healthy Greyhound Club At the 2011 KCOB AGM it was agreed to merge the Greyhound constitution with the KCOB constitution and to manage the club through the KCOB Executive. The KCOB Exec thank manageress Sharon Pappial who has well settled in well to the post and is proving a most effective and reliable asset with the continued effor ts of Phil Ratcliffe who retires as chairman of the Greyhound Club with the conclusion of this operation as a separate entity. A First for KCOB Sadly, last year we learnt that Stanley Bevis (1975) had died when we were contacted by his Executors to advise that Kearsney College Old Boys were a beneficiary of his estate to the extent of R420,000. This is the first known bequest to KCOB.
