Chronicle-2011

71 ACADEMIC Review The matric boys under took two practical tasks this year : the first to design their dream house; the second a Practical Assessment Task to design and draw an auditorium for 500 people. The task also required the investigation of energy saving features for both buildings. The quality of work was outstanding and the effor ts of the boys were displayed at the annual EGD expo in October. Parents, boys and staff were able to view the final projects and engage the boys in discussion about their ideas. The grade 11 project this year was the design of a house. The drawings included AutoCAD two point perspective, isometric and elevations and the effor t was exceptional. AutoCAD has played a critical role in the development of the boys’ exper tise in the subject and many of them now prefer AutoCAD to the drawing board as it allows them to express themselves technologically. The programme has allowed Kearsney to make a modern shift towards embracing technology and provides a learning avenue for the modern boy. The grade 10 boys were still finding their feet in the subject, but they did get the chance to show off their talents by designing a rugby jersey and logo. Most of the work covered at this level involves the development of basic skills and familiarising themselves with AutoCAD. Dean Moodley EGD continues to be a popular choice at Kearsney. Brett Walsh and Thomas Rich Matt Brown, grade 10
