In the Under 18, category, Jack Lund finished in 4th place, and Matthew Goldie claimed 6th place. In the U16 category, Luka Koumantarakis claimed a podium position, finishing in 2nd place and Andrew Sebire made immense improvement over the year to claim 6th place. Ruschay Govender was our top U14 paddler, finishing in 6th place despite only participating in the last four events of the year. Matthew Pullen, also U14 is an exciting talent who emerged in term 4 and announced his arrival with a 4th place finish in the final event of the season. Jack Lund was awarded paddler of the year. Jack competed successfully in the Drak Challenge, Dusi Canoe Marathon, Umkomaas Marathon and the Fish River Canoe Marathon. A special thanks needs to be extended to Kevyn Meyer who efficiently and effectively captained the 2019 team, setting a fine example for these boys. It would great to see him still on the water in the years ahead and even better, taking a young Kearsney paddler for his first major race. With excellent results this year, I am excited and optimistic to see even further improved performances in 2020, as most of the boys will still be competing for us again next year. The continuous support of the parents has certainly not been unnoticed. Their support and involvement has impacted directly on our overall performance and we could not have enjoyed such a successful year without their active input.
