You will learn more from a glorious failure than you ever will from something you never finished.” These words ring surprisingly true for the Kearsney College U15A side of 2019. The season began disastrously with the team winning only one fixture against a Chatsworth Hub side in the Momentum Cup. As the fates would have it, fixtures against teams that the side had beaten in their U14 year were abandoned due to calamitous weather and those fixtures against strong opposition went ahead in glorious sunshine. It was indeed a bruised and battered team that sought refuge in the allure of second term sport. Having taken stock, the side embarked on a rigorous pre-season training programme in the third term and this appeared to ultimately pay significant dividends. After a pre-season win against a Durban High School side, they then lost a fixture to traditional rivals CRICKET UNDER 15A Back row: Bryce Wiggett, Nhlakanipho Ngubane Middle row: Jayce van Eeden, Aryan Sewsunker, Josh Woolven, Joshua Owen, Matthew Crookes Front row: Noah Futter, Mr Kyle Eysele, Callum McKeown (Captain), Lethu Gwarube (Vice-captain), Mr Jonathan Beaumont, Matthew Bergset Absent: Jacques Minnaar Michaelhouse, one which they should have comfortably won. This was followed up with a win against a competent St Charles College side by 7 wickets. The platform was thus laid for a challenging tour down to Port Elizabeth to participate in the annual Grey High Festival. Here the team built upon their new-found confidence and managed to win two matches (against Bishops Diocesan College and Woodridge College and Preparatory School) and had two abandoned against Grey High School and Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool. The team returned to the Hill brimming with confidence and proceeded to win a game against Durban High School in the 50 over format this time. They went on to win against a competitive Glenwood High School side, maintaining Kearsney College dominance of this fixture. Kearsney College posted 177 all out with Bryce Wiggett scoring 46 and Matthew Bergsett 56. Glenwood High School replied with 92 all out resulting in Kearsney College winning by 85 runs. Against Hilton College, Kearsney chose to bat first and posted a competitive total of 217 all out with Matthew Bergset again amongst the runs with a well-played 72. Rain set in later, ending play. The final fixture against Clifton College was cancelled as we reached the Mariannhill toll plaza and it was a rather dejected team that returned to the Hill.
