Chronicle-2019

118 U14B CRICKET Regular players: Oliver Brazier, Sean Diseko, Siso France, Caleb Fyvie, Tristan Gowdy, Ethan Groom (Captain), Ethan McCormick, Brandon McCrae, Scott McKay, Harvey Millard, Roderick Tayler, Cade van der Merwe, Adam Zeiler The U14B cricket season comprised many highs and lows, and despite losing a few games early on by narrow margins, the boys applied themselves during the off season in order to improve their batting and bowling skills. An improved team dynamic saw the team able to rally, which resulted in them winning four consecutive games in the 4th term against Michaelhouse, St Charles, Glenwood and DHS before unfortunately losing to Hilton College in the last game of the season. Highlights this season included performances by Oliver Brazier, Ethan Groom and Tristan Gowdy. However, it was the hard work of the team in the field which made their wins possible. A notable performance was that of Scott McKay, who started the season in the U14D team and at the end of the season was able to play a few games for the U14A side. Oliver Brazier was blessed with two fifties back to back in the fourth term and Ethan Groom was finally able to obtain his 5-wicket match ball. Overall it was a fantastic season and, as a coach, it is hard to describe the joy and gratitude I feel having been able to spend almost every Saturday with these boys on the road and on the field. Generally, our bowling let us down at critical times, where we lost the initiative and allowed the opposition to get more runs than they should have. We had some useful bowling spells during the season with Sim Mkize receiving a hat trick in our final game against Durban High School. In the batting department, Ryan Taylor and Luc Jonker made some useful runs over the season. Results: Played 9, Won 4, Lost 5 Mr John Drew Coach U14D CRICKET Regular players: Andrew Aspinall, Joshua Benians, Sachin Bhagwan, Hayden Davel, Bevan Dick, Stephen Kruger, Lihle Maqhugula, Connor Mills, Jadon Moodley, Aaron Osborn, Saneliswe Sawuti, Levi Wilcox This energetic group of boys ensured that the 2019 cricket season was both successful and enjoyable. They trained diligently during the week and were always good ambassadors for the College when representing the school. The hard work during practise sessions paid off when you look at some brilliant performances on match days. Not only did these boys perform with bat and ball but they had a never-say-die attitude when fielding. The team achieved impressive wins against Westville Boys’ High School, Hilton College (twice), Glenwood High School, Maritzburg College and Durban High School. I would like to thank every single member of this team for making the 2019 season a memorable one and to encourage the boys to keep playing this beautiful game, with the knowledge that they have the potential to represent the College at a higher level. I will be following their cricket careers with great interest. Results: Played 10, Won 6, Lost 2, Abandoned 2 Mr Mouton Badenhorst Coach Cricket
