120 GOLF Regular 1st Team Players: Matthew Bergset, Brayden Dahl, Julian Daws, Daniel de Kock, Hayden de Kock (Captain), Jaden Hearmon, Alex Swanepoel, Luke Weare, Jared Uys The aim for 2019 was to rank well in this year’s league, having lost minimal team members at the end of 2018. The players performed well under pressure in the individual match play in Term 1 and maintained this momentum in the 3rd Term, remaining unbeaten. The 3rd Term combinations gelled and produced some good scores. The team ended the season’s league in tie 1st place, something we have not achieved for a few years. The boys learnt a great deal this year, and 2020 looks promising. The KZN Schools Championships take place in the 3rd Term, and it is here that the regional teams are selected. This team performed well at Durban Country Club over the 36 holes, and several team members produced some excellent scores. Experience is a significant factor in achieving under pressure, and our team members are benefiting from this, as was evident when the team placed 3rd this year, our best result for some time. We had two players awarded their KZN Colours this year as Brayden Dahl and Julian Daws were selected to represent the province at the Inter-provincial in Gauteng during the October holidays. Jaden Hearmon, unfortunately, missed out, and Hayden de Kock withdrew from the final round of trials due to academic commitments. The school championships were held over 36 holes at Cotswold Downs. After a close first 18 holes, Brayden Dahl pulled away in the second 18 holes to win his first School Championship. In the match-play that followed, Hayden de Kock and Jaden Hearmon played in the final which also took place at Cotswold Downs. Some tight golf saw the boys tie after 18 holes which resulted in a 9-hole play-off where Hayden remained calm under pressure and produced golf worthy of winning the title. Julian Daws was awarded Junior Golfer of The Year at the College’s annual Sports Awards. Thank you to the team at Cotswold Downs for their incredible support in helping to build the game of golf among our players. Thank you to Mr Wayne Marsden for his continued and professional assistance in managing the 2nd side this year, and to Mr Marco Botha for his help in the 3rd and 4th terms. Regular 2nd Team Players: Michael Barnett, Caleb Fyvie, Judah Gibson, David Hudson, Luc Jonker, Ryan Meaker, Thomas Mungle, Jonathon Saad, Jordyn Scrooby (Captain) The 2nd team took some time to settle in the 1st term producing some inconsistent results. The 3rd term saw improvement as a stronger side produced some excellent results against other schools 1st teams. It was pleasing to see how much some of these players improved, and 2020 will see them competing to qualify for the 1st team. 2020 looks promising for this side and will see some juniors moving up through the ranks.
