Chronicle-2019

124 The next match against Glenwood was a big game for a few reasons; it was Founders Weekend, and it was the last home game of the season. A win here would cement the team’s record of almost three full seasons in a row unbeaten on the Mason Astro. The game came down to a difference in short corners. We did not concede any of their short corners but scored two of ours through two excellent flicks from Chase Kelly, coming out as victors. The team then travelled to Westville, where the game proved gruelling, resulting in a 3-1 loss. The final domestic game was against Northwood with the match ending in a draw. The season ended with a trip to Pretoria and Johannesburg and games against Waterkloof and St Stithians. The Waterkloof match proved one of the best of the season ending in a 4-0 win. The game against St Stithians took a different turn, and a very frustrating game of hockey ended in a draw. The 1st XI enjoyed an outstanding season despite having a young team with less experience than usual at this level. We grew as a team and developed into a force with which to be reckoned.
