Chronicle-2019

127 Under 16A Hockey The season started with a difficult match against a solid Hilton College side, followed the next week by a Founders Festival hosted by Dale College. The team adapted to the conditions nicely coming home undefeated - an outstanding result and one not many other teams can match this season. A frustrating draw against St Charles College followed, and then the Independent Schools’ Hockey Festival, hosted by Michaelhouse. The remainder of the season provided mixed results, with some frustrating narrow defeats and rather satisfying wins. The team finished the season with a 62%-win rate and ranked 7th in the country. This result is even more impressive, considering that five U16 players were playing in our 1st team. Congratulations to Daniel de Kock, Kai Hielckert, Tim Dladla and Gontse Machaba on their selection to the KZN Coastal B side and to Bryce Wiggett for being selected as the side’s non-travelling reserve. Thank you to all involved for a fantastic season. The season started slowly with a few losses but quickly improved with a 5-0 win over Durban High School. The team worked well together from the start, and the boys learned what it means to work together as a united front. A highlight of the season was the two wins against Glenwood High School. The boys fought hard, showing a physical game with flashes of skill and attractive hockey. Ethan Barrett, our capable captain, led the team onto the park, to practices and matches, with a positive attitude, encouraging everyone to give of their best. His relaxed, calm, friendly demeanour will serve him well in leadership positions in years to come. Enzo Cocciante was an incredible shot-stopper and often made it look easy, making saves that nobody expected.
