130 The players were certainly rewarded for all their efforts on the trip to Gauteng where they won a thrilling encounter against Hoërskool Waterkloof 6-4 and the following day beat St. Stithians College 1-0. In his role as the assistant coach, national hockey player Mr Jethro Eustice added tremendous value. Mr Peter Kirsten managed the team, providing timely guidance to the players and assisting in coaching the team when required. Thank you both for your contribution. Due to the high level of skill, regular changes took place, and there were no fixed positions. Throughout the season, they worked well and performed well as a team. James Gillespie led by example and the team followed suit – determined and committed in every match. The season started with a hard-won 3-2 victory against Hilton College, followed by two well-deserved, but challenging, victories against St Charles College and Durban High School. The boys were, however, then outplayed in all aspects by Maritzburg College. They recovered and played well, winning against both Michaelhouse and Glenwood High School. The wins were short-lived and followed by two losses against Westville Boys High School and Northwood School. The season ended on a high with a solid 2-0 victory over St Stithians College. It was a pleasure and privilege to work with this group of boys.
