Chronicle-2019

132 1st Indoor Hockey The 1st Indoor Hockey Team had to compete in the U18B league this season, due to our non-participation last year. While this was not the ideal situation, the boys set the target of winning the league and gaining promotion back to the U18A league for next year. The boys showed excellent determination and focus towards achieving this goal. The team played very well throughout the season and recorded convincing wins against Pinetown Boys’ High School, Hillcrest Christian Academy, Reddam School and Hillcrest High School. While we did seem to be coasting towards winning the league, ultimately, we came up against a very talented and motivated Kloof High School team, in what would prove to be a decisive game in the season. Even though we went down 0-2 early in this match, the team managed to dig deep and produce some excellent indoor hockey, eventually winning this tightly contested match 5-4. This ensured that we won the league convincingly and have gained promotion back to the A league. While almost the entire team contributed on the goalscoring charts, special mention must be made of Nic van Heerden. He was fantastic throughout the season and ended as the “Most Valuable Player” for this league as the leading goal scorer. This young group of players is to be congratulated on maintaining a solid work ethic throughout the season, and producing some wonderful, attacking hockey in their matches. They did well to achieve their pre-season targets, and I look forward to working with and achieving even more with them next year.
