133 Under 16 Indoor Hockey The U16A Indoor Hockey Team enjoyed a successful season. The KwaZulu-Natal U16s league was always going to be tough, as both Northwood School and Westville Boys’ High School had two teams in the A Section, as well as Glenwood High School, Clifton School and Durban High School all having strong indoor teams in the U16A Section League this year. Our focus was to end in the top 4 in the league after the round-robin stage, and then to finish off strongly in the semi finals and final. The league started off with a convincing win against Reddam House, but on the same night, a hard-fought victory against Glenwood High School showed that this was going to be a tough season. The Kearsney College players continually learnt how to play the right structures of the indoor game and, most importantly, learnt how to enjoy and win an indoor game. After the nine fixtures in the league stages of the season, Kearsney College managed to win 8 and draw 1. This was a fantastic result for the players, as to go unbeaten against some of the best KwaZulu Natal U16 players was a massive achievement. The playoffs were held at Westville Boys’ High School, and it was a nail-biting event. The boys showed tremendous heart and fighting spirit and managed to defeat Northwood School on penalties in the semifinal. This set up a top-notch final against Westville Boys’ High School. They stuck to the game plan and produced some quality indoor hockey, eventually ending 2-1 winners. This ensured that we ended the season unbeaten and deserving champions of the U16A league. We scored 52 goals in total, with Kai Hielckert and Ruben Rheeder top scoring with 9 goals each. Special mention must be made of Enzo Cocciante, the goalkeeper - he had a good season, and was named man of the match for his performances in both the semi-final and final matches. This team truly did Kearsney proud with their determination, work ethic, and overall love for the game. They were always keen to train and improve and deserve all the credit for these magnificent results and achievements.
