Chronicle-2019

140 2nd XV Rugby Although the 2nd XV faced challenges throughout the season with injuries and call-ups to the 1st XV, the remaining boys and replacements continually gave of their best, playing with passion, resulting in some good wins. The game against St Charles College saw Josh Muller score a hat trick of tries, with the last try coming after five consecutive offloads in the tackle; crowd-pleasing rugby. The team toured the Eastern Cape during the Easter holidays and played matches against Nico Milan High School and Graeme College. Both games were very physical with our boys producing some outstanding rugby. One of the significant highlights this season was the team’s win against Glenwood High School on the Stott. Cameron van Eck opened the scoring with a power surge from close range, while Christo Scheepers stretched the Kearsney lead with a great winger’s try. Glenwood then scored fourteen unanswered points before Jordan Bamber slotted a penalty to take the lead 15 – 14 in Kearsney’s favour. Glenwood then scored what seemed to be the winning try with four minutes remaining. The character of the boys was genuinely tested at this stage, and they rose to the challenge with no time remaining. Wesley Uys won the restart, and the team went eight phases before Jordan Bamber ran through a ruck to score for a well-deserved 22 – 19 win. It was an honour and a privilege to coach this team, who remained committed and dedicated throughout the season.
