Chronicle-2019

144 Rugby Under 16B Rugby Regular players: Ethan Ceronio, Dylan Cohen, Matthew Crookes, Noah Dammann, Luke du Toit, Nqobile Dweba, Dylan Forbes, Joshua Gillespie, Daniel Hayden, Matthew Jacobs, Qhawe Mafika, Kwazi Moyo, Aphiwe Ngwenya, Rahul Paul, Tyga Pollock, Luke Robertson, Joshua Soanes, Zenande Sokhela, Michael Tainton, Seth Vallance, Luke van Eeden and Ryan Wimbush The season proved challenging and involved many tightly fought contests. The closest match was a 14-point defeat, during which the Kearsney side used clever tactics to punch well above their weight against a physically dominant Westville Boys’ High School who only managed to pull away on the scoreboard in the last five minutes, with two late tries. Other results came in extremes, most clearly illustrated by a 48 – 0 victory over Durban High School followed by a 0 – 48 loss to Maritzburg College. The U16B team concluded their season with a positive difference of 25 points. The highlight of the season was, undoubtedly, the perseverance the team showed after four losses to end the season with two solid victories over Northwood School and St Stithians. While the lack of evenly matched opposition was frustrating, the boys learned the virtues of being both humble in victory and gracious in defeat. Practice sessions saw boys hard at work honing their skills but were plagued by injuries which led to uncertainty in strategy. As coaches, we were delighted that the boys adhered to game plans, playing with passion and remaining positive despite facing very physical opposition. One highlight of the season was their game against Northwood School with a notable 34 – 14 win; what a way to end the season. It was a pleasure to work with this team and their enthusiastic, fearless and committed approach meant that they always gave of their best. We look forward to watching the boys’ growth and development in years to come. Results: Played 8, Won 3, Lost 5 Mr Andre van Zyl and Rev Jafie Breyt enbac h Coaches Rugby U16A
