Chronicle-2019

147 Their never-say-die attitude saw them always play to the final whistle, which resulted in some fantastic wins, great comebacks and narrow losses. One of the main highlights of the season was the remarkable win over Michaelhouse. Despite two injuries during the game, with only thirteen players remaining, they pulled off a 30-point victory. Thank you to each member of this team for their positive contribution, particularly vice-captain, Robbie Jorgensen who always led by example. As coach, I tip my hat to a great season of rugby. Brothers on the field and gentlemen off the field. They played their hearts out in every fixture, even when the opposition was decidedly bigger and stronger. Highlights of the season included the excellent wins against Hilton College and Michaelhouse and the narrow 5-point loss against a powerful Glenwood team. The forwards consisted of a powerful tight five and a quick and talented loose trio. These boys held their own in the scrums and lineouts in every game. Their ability to win second phase ball and to carry it forward, meant the backline had space to move. The three quarters ran with determination and genuine pace and their handling skills under pressure resulted in some excellent tries with their defence always solid. The highlight of the season was the commitment of a strong core of players, despite injuries in the line of duty, they kept coming back for more. Their raw talent was the primary reason for their progress through the season and it indicated that they all will have a bright future in the Open age group. Thank you to our captains, Matthew Crookes and Chaz Gooderson for their fighting spirit, passionate team talks and their combined leadership throughout the season. Thank you to the boys, particularly to Callum Shillaw and Jezreel Naicker who kept the humour alive through yet another press-up. Finally, thank you to Mr Andre Van Zyl and Mr Mike Albers, both who mentored me through my first season of rugby at Kearsney College.
