150 SEVENS RUGBY 1st Team Sevens Rugby The 3rd term gave the open age group sevens rugby players another chance to measure themselves against the best in our province. This season we decided to only consider Grade 11 and Grade 10 boys for selection, due to the demanding schedule the Grade 12s deal with during this time of the year. Our first tournament was hosted by Crawford College La Lucia. We played four matches in total over the Friday and Saturday. We only lost to Michaelhouse and won the other three fixtures. The highlight was beating Hilton College in extra time (sudden death) after the scores were tied 12-12. The next tournament was hosted by Clifton College. In our pool matches we lost to Westville Boys’ High School and beat Ashton College and St Charles College B. We played Vryheid High School in the plate semi-final, beating them 22-07. In the plate final we had Westville Boys’ High School B to contend with, but unfortunately lost 17-19. Glenwood High School hosted the following tournament: We played a Kenyan invitational side and Westville Boys’ High School B in our pool matches and won both matches comfortably. We played Maritzburg College in the cup quarter-final, winning with a last-minute try to win 31-28. In the semi-final we were met by a competent Northwood side in an exciting encounter, but Kearsney College showed tremendous resolve to be the eventual victors 26-25. In the cup final we were overpowered by the province favourites, Westville Boys’ High School and lost 0- 42. We were still exceptionally proud of the boys for reaching the cup final and the resolve they displayed in the playoffs. Our penultimate tournament was hosted by Maritzburg College. We were not at our best on the day and lost all our pool matches to Hilton College, Westville Boys’ High School B and Glenwood High School respectively. Our final tournament of the season was hosted by DHS. One of the biggest highlights of this tournament was our hard-fought victory over eventual tournament winners Westville Boys’ High School, beating them 19-12. We also beat Curro Mt Richmore, 29-19, but went down to Rugby - Sevens 7S RUGBY OPENS Back row: Grant Craze, Max Immelman, Cameron de Beer, Singelele Mkhize Middle row: Ulrich Botha, Michael Ngwenya, Luke Dudley, Janko Roets Front row: Warren Miller, Mr Nico Breedt (Coach), Massimo Fierro (Captain), Aaron Smith, Mr John Wessels (Assistant Coach), Connor De Bruyn Other regular players: Trent Coetzee, Prince Dube, Talumba Masamba
