152 SOCCER OVERVIEW Soccer Luke Gibbon on the ball and Lefa Motshele in support The 2019 pre-season began in the July holidays when 20 Kearsney coaches participated in a soccer coaching course with ex Bafana Bafana and African Cup of Nations winning coach Clive Barker. The course consisted of technical and practical aspects that equipped the coaches for the upcoming season. From the feedback, the coaches thoroughly enjoyed the course and Mr Barker’s personal input, especially stories from his time as the National coach. Inter-house 2019 The inter-house competition proved very popular among the boys once again, especially the NO offside rule; throw in’s being replaced with a kick in; and all free kicks being direct. Gillingham totally dominated the 2019 competition and won every age group, thus leaving the other houses to fight for the scraps. Final overall results were: 1st Gillingham, 2nd Finningley, 3rd Sheffield and 4th Pembroke. Teams overall Congratulations to the following teams: Top senior team: 7th’s who had a 100%-win rate; Top junior team: 14F with an 80%-win rate and for scoring 23 goals in the season.
