Chronicle-2019

155 2nd Team Soccer The season began with a top-class performance from the players as they came from 0-1 down against Hilton College to win 2-1 when Mandiza Zama scored a last-minute blaster on their ground. The win gave the players a confidence boost which paved the foundation for the rest of the season. They went on to win against Thomas More College. Oluhle Mathebula was outstanding in both games. Unfortunately, he injured his knee in the opening 15 seconds against Northwood. The team rallied and drew 1-1. The team won the next match against a strong Hillcrest High School side. The boys played an entertaining one-touch brand of football. The following two games against Westville Boys’ High School both ended in a draw as the team did not take advantage of their chances. What followed was our only loss of the season in a match against Kloof High School. The loss served as a wake-up call and in the next match, against Michaelhouse, the boys scored three quick goals to win 3-1. The final game of the season, against a strong Northwood side, ended in a 2-1 victory. The team comprised predominantly Grade 11 players and hopefully these players will step up to take on the challenge of perhaps playing for the 1st XI next year.
