161 Soccer Under 15A Soccer The season did not start well for this team in terms of finding the right combination of players which can be attributed to several factors, such as not having a pre-season soccer practices, not participating in a pre-season tournament and not being allocated enough time for activities such as soccer trials. The boys gave of their best as individuals; however, the end results were not great. They did not let this dissuade them and grew from strength to strength developing into a force to be reckoned with. It was only towards the end of the season that this team started played as a machine, out playing most of their opposition. The highlight of this team was when they out played and out classed our arch-rivals Michaelhouse at Michaelhouse, beating them 5-1. It was this performance that got the boys to believe in their abilities, and this was proven in their next match against Northwood High School, which was also their last match of the season. A match which they ended up winning comfortably by 3-0. I would like to take this opportunity and thank both my captain Luc Painting and his vice-captain John Eastes for their hard work on, and off, the field. They worked well as a team and I could always rely on them. Luc was a no-nonsense defender who took no prisoners at the back. He possessed all the attributes which a defender of this sport requires. Congratulations to John Eastes for being selected for Highway U15. Nhlakanipho Ngubane was a prolific striker and a genius to watch. He joins the team halfway through the season and ended up as a top goal scorer. All in all, it was a pleasure to have coached this team. I have no doubt that if the season continued a bit longer, this team would have beaten any team on the day. Unfortunately, they connected very well and understood the coach’s instructions, as well as gained more confidence towards the end of the season.
