163 Soccer Under 14A Soccer Other regular players: Kuhle Fadane and James Gillespie The team enjoyed a highly successful season which saw players having fun while remaining disciplined when required. Of the nine games played, they won five and the highlight of the season was undoubtedly their ability to bounce back from a humbling 4-0 defeat to Westville Boys’ High School at home, where they defeated them 1-0 on their home turf in the follow-up fixture. Captain Asande Nyawose motivated his teammates through his enthusiastic approach to the game. Midfielder Hayden Bishop scored the goal of the season against Westville Boys’ High School. Neo Scott was the most improved player of the season, as voted by his team. Goals were evenly distributed across the group, with Nyawose, Bishop and Gillespie scoring four apiece while maverick striker, Blaise Mauvis scored three. Gillespie’s pace and skill proved challenging for many a defender over the course of the season. While not every team member has been singled out for praise, this was undoubtedly a team rather than a group of individuals. It was a joy to coach such a committed group of boys who enjoyed their soccer. Balancing attack with a solid defence, the team scored 19 goals in 9 games and only conceded 8, demonstrating a relentless hunger to improve. Firstly, the focus was on establishing a regular team and strong camaraderie. Once this was achieved, the focus shifted to becoming more competitive and aiming to achieve better results.
