Chronicle-2019

170 TENNIS The 2019 Tennis season proved successful, with positive results reflected from tournaments held throughout the province and the country. These included the 24th Kearsney College Tennis Festival, held in May, the Paul Roos Festival which took place in Stellenbosch in February and, in September, the Hilton College / St Anne’s doubles and mixed doubles events. 2019 Tennis Events Another Successful Kearsney Tennis Festival The annual Kearsney Tennis Festival, sponsored by Growthpoint, ended in an epic battle between Grey College and Paul Roos Gymnasium and proved to be possibly the most exciting, and tense, final in the history of its 24 years. The winner of the highly competitive festival was only decided at the final doubles match. Grey College and Paul Roos Gymnasium had each won three singles and a doubles match prior to this final game and, in the end, Grey College won the match beating Paul Roos Gymnasium by 5 matches to 4. The weather came into play and, unfortunately, play was rained out on Saturday. For this reason, the results from Friday’s fixtures were considered, and as a result, the final placing on pool positions remained unchanged. No cross play-offs could take place.
