Chronicle-2019

179 Under 14A Water Polo For most players, this was their first year playing water polo formally. They improved throughout the year and slowly gained the confidence the need to excel in the sport. The highlight of the year must be defeating Westville Boys’ High to come 3rd in the KZN top 10 Tournament and therefore 3rd in KZN, which meant we ended our season on a high note after countless hours of practice and hard work in the pool. The most valuable players were James Francke and Luke Bartlett, who deserve special mention for their efforts in the pool. They have continued to grow their skills every week and shown a great passion for their sport by playing in most games in the season, often only getting a few minute breathers at a time during the games. The most improved player was James Gillespie. He had a limited understanding of the game at the start, but by the end of the season his pace down the wings and ability to make space in the water to be passed to made him a vital part of the starting seven. The team was made up of dedicated and keen young players who have a bright future in the sport. We had a slightly inconsistent season. This term we aimed to work on fitness and positive team communication, which the team have made progress in, but still need to improve on. When the boys set their minds to a game, they were unstoppable. With an improved mindset, this team could progress to be an excellent one. The highlights of the season were an 8 – 1 victory vs Michaelhouse and a 15 – 3 win against Glenwood. It has been a good season - especially in terms of development. The second half of the season has been an excellent building period for the team, when they showed great promise for the years to come.
