183 The Class Funds initiative, which was started by the Class of 1952, received a further donation from an Old Boy in Australia, Colin Meuman (KCOB 1952). Class of 2007 The highly successful 10th annual Stef Röhwer Memorial Golf Day was held at the Kloof Country Club on 21 October, honouring the memory of Stef Röhwer and raising funds for the Class of 2007 Fund. The Class of 2007 Fund was established by Manfred and Sue Röhwer in memory of their son Stef, who matriculated from Kearsney in 2007 and who passed away tragically in 2009. Eight-eight golfers participated on the day, including Stef ’s brother Martin, who is a professional golfer on the Sunshine Tour, and two of his professional peers. After the day’s golf the players and guests enjoyed the prize-giving and auction that followed in a wonderful atmosphere of camaraderie and friendship. The day raised a substantial amount of money for the Class of 2007 Fund and we are thankful to all involved for their generosity. Manfred and Sue Röhwer drive the Class of 2007 Fund with dedication and passion and it is always well supported by the community. It is the largest of the 22 Class Funds that have been established and there are currently 24 monthly donors contributing towards this fund, more than any other class fund. The Class of 2007 fund makes it possible for a pupil to attend Kearsney and a video of recipient Gontse Machaba, currently in Grade 10, expressing his heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity that he has been given, was shown to the guests at the dinner. The reality of what the day is about and what the fund makes possible brought a tear to many an eye and it was a fitting tribute to the work of the Röhwer and the memory of Stef. Class of 2021 The Class of 2021, current Grade 10 year, are leading the number of donors to a class fund currently with 61 donors contributing monthly to their fund. A big thank you to the Class of 2021 parents! The Class of 2021 Fund will be ring-fenced and invested in the Kearsney Development Fund with income earned accruing to the Class Fund. One popular option is to make a sufficient donation to acquire the naming rights for a classroom in the Centenary Centre. Alternatively, the Class can choose to sponsor a bursary for a deserving young man to start at Kearsney in 2021, thereby making it possible for the recipient to access the incredible opportunities that Kearsney offer, changing the course of their lives. Class of 2019 Currently, the Class of 2019, spear headed by Kade Mindry (Pembroke 2019) and Ezra Tsela (Sheffield 2019), have appealed to the boys to contribute from their pocket money to get their Class fund established. The objective is to sufficiently grow this fund to one day fund a boy to attend Kearsney. Scholarships and Bursaries Making a Difference The greater Kearsney Community and Corporates have generously supported our Bursary Programme with their being 61 recipients from Grades 8 to 12. Kearsney Foundation Leif Gjesland (KCOB, 1950) from the USA has contributed further to his Ministerial Bursary fund in support of a Grade 12 son of a pastor. Leif, through his generosity, knows the immense satisfaction that comes from giving a deserving boy the opportunities that a Kearsney education provides. Halfway Group Holdings, led by Old Boy George Baikie (KCOB, 1967) have again been magnanimous in their financial support of five fortunate young men from Grade 9 to Grade 12. MySchool continues to be an area of funding to the Foundation. We have promoted it both at Parents society cocktail party at the beginning of the year and at Parents meetings. We signed up 40 new parents to date.
