188 Kearsney College Old Boys Founders Weekend During this annual celebration, various special events are held for Old Boys, including “Survivors” who have been out of school for more than 50 years, and all those celebrating special reunion years. This year we welcomed back the Classes of 1949, 1954, 1959, 1964 and 1969. Kearsney enjoys a very strong and supportive relationship with the Old Boys’ community which we once again experienced over the weekend as we welcomed back Old Boys and their families. Founders Weekend was kicked off with a successful squash tournament on Wednesday and hockey on Thursday with Old Boys playing against the Kearsney 1st teams. The traditional Thursday corporate Golf Day was well-received by all players and a record number of sponsors. All prizes and auction items were donated by various companies throughout KwaZulu Natal and some Old Boys. The highlight of the day was a hole in one on the 16th hole where a young Cameron Smith won a Mini Cooper. Nick Keary (KCOB 1998) and Bay union fortunately had insured this hole. The KCOB Golf Committee have really streamlined this event and it is proving to be a very popular and profitable event on the calendar. Winners of the day were Justin Carr, Murray Hall, Etienne Fynn (KCOB 1989), KCOB Executive Committee congratulating the winners, Chris Beukes and Alex Hall (KCOB 1989) Founders Assembly on Friday, is attended by boys, academic staff and Old Boys from 1969 and older and brings the Old Boys into the heart of the school, offering an opportunity for the boys to be addressed by a new “Survivor”. This year it was Henry Pipkin (KCOB 1969) who travelled from New Zealand. Wilfried Letcher and Ray Wicks, Class of 1949, were Old Boys attending their 70th reunion. This was followed by the unveiling of the Centenary Classrooms. The ceremony was to recognise the generosity through the unveiling of the Classroom Plaques for our three Old Boys, Mr John Bester and brothers, David and Michael Hall. The Survivors’ Lunch was provided by the College and honoured all Old Boys of fifty and more year’s vintage and their par tners, with a total of 35 attendees. The tour of the College was also well-attended. The Survivors’ Lunch on Friday of Founders Weekend
