Chronicle-2019

35 This year was one of many challenges, sacrifices, victories, disappointments and most importantly, growth. 2019 saw Sheffield House transform yet again from a boarding house at a school to a home within a home. It became more than just the place where the boys in yellow showered and slept; it became the place where memories were made, brotherly bonds between strangers were created and lessons were learned. People always base success on the results on the sports field or the marks in the classroom but success is more than a trophy at the end of the year, it is knowing that the bonds created between the different grades and between one another within a House, are bonds that will never be broken. Success is knowing that the boys that arrived at the front door of Sheffield all those years ago, now leave as men set up to achieve greatness! As 2019 came to a close and the annual awards were handed out, Sheffield was, once again after a few years, victorious in the Cultural sphere of the inter-house competition and I would like to congratulate and thank everyone who was a part of that. It took many hours of hard work to pull off and hopefully next year the House can add to this success. Thank you to the duty staff, Mr Moerdyk, Mr Els, Mr Thomson and Mr van Ellewee, for all the hours and energy spent on ensuring that our time, along with every other Sheffield boy, was time filled with learning, memories and growth. You are the very reason we leave Sheffield as men. To the current Sheffield Matrics, our time is up. We have come a long way since the first day we stepped foot into what we now call home. Some have left us and some have joined us but we have all grown up together in one way or another, arriving as little boys greeting everything that moves, leaving as men that have earned the right to be greeted. Thank you for making my boarding house my home and my time spent in it a journey. To Jordan (Bamber), Cam (Ferguson), Thando (Myeza) and Dale (Young), our story as leaders of Sheffield has just come to an end; thank you for making it one worth being a part of. To Dom (Stawicki), Chris (Duncan), Matt (Strauss), Ulrich (Botha) and Tom (Constable), your story is just beginning and the page is yours to fill. To the Sheffield Matrics of 2020 and the rest of the boys in yellow, you are in good hands. What you achieve next year is up to you, because destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice. You have the opportunity to build a legacy of your own next year, do us proud and keep building on the growing success of this place we call home. Thank you Sheffield House and to all the boys inside it! Jos h Mu l l e r SHEFFIELD HOUSE Head of House report Sheffield House
