Chronicle-2019

37 Academic International Tour Barclays Center, they saw the WWE Superstars Hall of Fame Ceremony. The entire group visited the Astor Theatre to watch the phenomenal, Blue Man Group. Our travels then took us to Pennsylvania where a most entertaining and informative guide took us on the historic Gettysburg battlefield tour where the group spent a night. This battle was the most decisive of the American Civil War. It turned the tide of the war against the Confederacy in favour of the Union forces. To date, it remains the bloodiest battle in all US military history and gave birth to President Abraham Lincoln’s famous “Gettysburg Address”. The highlights of our last stop in Washington DC included the Arlington Cemetery, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, Washington Monument, Smithsonian Air & Space Museum, Udvar-Hazy Aviation Museum, National Geographic Museum, Museum of American History and Technology and the Natural History Museum. From a Historical perspective, the stop in Washington was awe-inspiring, and it was impossible to include everything about the rich history in the time that the tour allowed. The whole tour group participated in an incredibly informative guided tour of all the major historical attractions. At the National Building Museum the EGD and Maths boys were given a lecture on “secret cities”, the processes and designs involved in the development of the atomic bomb. The Drama boys expanded their practical base by engaging in workshops offered at the Shakespeare Theatre Complex, Washington. They were also taken on a backstage tour. The musical ‘Into the Woods’ was a theatrical spectacle that the boys loved. The Drama experience ended with a contemporary performance, PSG or The Miss-Edumacation of Dorian Belle’. The boys were treated to a day at the Six Flags America Theme Park. Our extreme sports enthusiasts thoroughly enjoyed the awesome rides and entertainment on offer. We boarded our plane back to South Africa on Monday 15 April with heavy hearts yet with enriched minds and souls.
