Chronicle-2019

73 World Choir Games 2020 The Choir is currently preparing for the World Choir Games in 2020 which are to be hosted in Flanders, Belgium. The World Choir Games is a biannial event and choirs from all around the world participate. There are 27 competition categories and a choir can either take part in the Open Competition or the Champions Competition. To qualify for the Champions Competition, choirs must have won their category in another recognized international choir competition, or to have achieved a satisfactory standard acceptable in that competition or the Open Competition. This is then brought before, and decided upon, by the World Choir Games Council. The Kearsney College Choir will participate in the Champions Competition and compete in two categories. The reason for this is so that the choir becomes performance-ready while honing their moves and choreography and training their voices. Last year, we toured to Grahamstown where we sang four performances at the National Arts Festival. Next year, we’ll do a pre-tour to Italy and perform at least three times there, in Rome, Florence and Venice before traveling to World Choir Games in Flanders. Next year’s tour promises to be a life-changing and memorable experience for the boys. Mr Mars he l l Lombard Director of Music
