When boys first arrive, they are naturally shy, timid and know no one. This doesn’t last however, and it isn’t long before they are immersed into new friendship circles, enjoying a new culture. When they leave, we say goodbye to different young men. Their new-found confidence, friendships and the experiences they carry under their belts have transformed them into young men ready for any new challenges they may encounter. The boys we welcome home from their own journeys abroad come home with stories, anecdotes and a mature and positive outlook on life. Most importantly, for all these boys, are the friendships forged across continents; friendships they would not otherwise have formed. Louis Nel led the exchange and embarked on his journey in Term 2. He attended Mount St Mary’s College in Derbyshire, England. All other outgoing boys went to their partner schools in Term 4. Katlego Phetla and Luke Robertson attended the Mount and experienced an English winter. Benjamin d’Avice, Oliver Fly and Heath Adams attended the Catholic University School in Dublin, Ireland. Joshua Groom, Luc Nazar and Tyga Pollock represented Kearsney at Waverley College in Sydney, Australia. Ethan Barrett and Matthew Pender-Smith were our ambassadors to The Scots College, whilst Michael Tainton enjoyed his time at Christ Church Grammar School in Perth, Australia. Kearsney hosted the following 15 boys in 2019: Waverley College: Byron Scott, Benjamin Zlattner, Murray Shearer Mount St Mary’s College: Joshua Briggs, Liam Powell and Jake Odams Catholic University School: Erik Jerkland, Eoghan Keohane, Kevin Gill, Ben Lockhart and Niall O’Neal The Scots College: Milo Atkinson, Bentley Thorn Christ Church Grammar School: Noah Brown Boulder High School: Rory McCarthy Mrs Cha rl ene El l iott Teacher in Charge When visiting exchange students arrive and leave Kearsney, we have a ceremony with their country’s flag, which is flown in front of the Admin building whilst they are at the College.
