However, things did not go as expected. While the boys remained committed and dedicated, they often lost concentration during crucial moments in big games. The St John’s Tournament was an eye-opener for a few of the boys who had not played in a major tournament before, and it became clear to them how much work would be required for success. They committed to early morning training and worked hard on their skills in the off-season, taking advantage of the time to train individually. This dedication paid off as the boys went on an 11-game winning streak in the fourth term, including winning the Home Turf Hoops basketball tournament hosted by Northwood. However, the hard work was undone when they lost their next three league fixtures due to a lack of concentration and focus during crucial moments. Losing is not always bad; hopefully, the team will learn from these losses and grow as players and as a team. They have set a platform for success next year if they continue building on the lessons learned this season. As a basketball programme, we expect great things from this group, and the pressure will be on them to show their true potential. Pabatso Sithole was selected for the KZN U15 team to participate in the summer games at the end of the year. We wish him all the best in his endeavours. Sibonga Miya was selected for the 1st team during the fourth term, a just reward for his hard work and effort. Mr Mfanafuthi Ntombela Coach Under 15B Basketball The U15B basketball season began promisingly but ended disappointingly, failing to showcase the team’s true potential. We started strongly, securing victories at home and away, including notable wins against Michaelhouse, DHS, Hilton, and Westville. However, from September to November, the team underwent composition changes, with two players moving up to the A team and three joining from the C team. Despite this, the team’s cohesion, defensive prowess, and offensive strategy improved as the new players adapted. Although we demonstrated effective ball movement and created scoring opportunities, inconsistent passing accuracy and missed layups proved costly in crucial moments, leading to disappointing losses. Matches against Northwood, Michaelhouse, and St Charles highlighted our potential, but we failed to capitalise on opportunities, resulting in disappointing outcomes. Despite setbacks, the season was relatively successful, with 8 wins out of 13 matches (a 75% win rate) against other schools. We remain confident in the team’s ability and anticipate continued development in the U16 age group next season. We look forward to another competitive season and aim for results reflecting the team’s strength and capability. The team played 13 matches, winning 11 and narrowly losing 2. One of the most remarkable accomplishments was their victory over arch-rival Michaelhouse. They faced each other twice, with both matches highlighting our players’ skill and determination. The first victory on our home court was an incredible display of teamwork and skill. The second match at Michaelhouse saw relentless efforts pay off with another victory. These wins boosted the morale and confidence of our players, proving that hard work truly pays off. Similarly, the team emerged victorious against Durban High School (DHS) twice during the season. The return match against DHS was an exceptional performance, with our players showcasing skill and athleticism, leaving the opposition dumbfounded. The team’s relentless spirit and unity on the court were evident. On and off the court, the U15C team demonstrated sportsmanship and positivity. They worked together as a unit, improving their individual skills and strengthening their team dynamics. The players were disciplined and dedicated, ensuring they were well-prepared for each match. Their commitment to training and determination to succeed were key to their victories. The team excelled in both offence and defence. Their counterattacks were deadly, catching opponents off guard and scoring crucial points. Defensively, they made it challenging for the opposition to break through. This balanced approach contributed significantly to their successful season. Four players from the U15C team were promoted to higher teams at the beginning of the second season, a testament to their abilities. This recognition speaks volumes about the squad’s talent and potential. These individuals, along with the rest of the team, can be proud of their achievements and look forward to future opportunities for growth and success.
