This group of talented athletes proved that they could overcome adversity while coping with significant roster changes. However, the team soon faced an unexpected hurdle as most starting players received promotions to higher teams. Losing key contributors meant the squad had to adapt swiftly to incorporate less experienced players who were still learning the game’s nuances. Undeterred by these setbacks, the restructured team approached their next matches with renewed determination. Despite the initial struggle to find a new rhythm and cohesion, the team managed to clinch a respectable draw against Northwood in double overtime and a string of victories, displaying their resilience and ability to adapt amid adversity. This triumphant phase instilled confidence and synergy among the players. Despite their impressive run, the team suffered two heartbreaking losses; these never deterred the team from maintaining their unwavering commitment to teamwork, discipline and improvement. As the season wore on, the team showed remarkable growth and maturation. With a solid foundation laid during this challenging season, the U15E team undoubtedly has a bright future. Competition for places encouraged players to perform at their best. The Jenny Orchard Invitational Tournament, hosted by Maritzburg College, allowed these talented players to shine. While they were not totally dominant, they won the tournament and remained unbeaten. They also remained unbeaten during their regular season games, playing an entertaining brand of basketball. The second season started well with a trouncing of the Maritzburg College U14A team before going into the break and the Michaelhouse Invitation Tournament, which proved challenging and produced the team’s only loss of the season - to Hilton College by one point in the final game. They showed that they had learned from this loss and won their remaining league games to finish with an impressive record of 25 wins and one loss. We hope this group of players will continue working hard and improving their skills to maintain their competitive edge.
