Chronicle-2023

111 110 and turn the game in our favour. In our match against Waterkloof, the second-best team in the country at the time, Sandiswa Yeni blew away their top order to return figures of 6/40. Ross Coetzee and Adam Zeiler led us to a 6-wicket victory over St John’s College from Johannesburg with some exceptional batting. Unfortunately, we lost the toss on a difficult pitch against Affies on the last day and our 12-match winning streak came to an end. However, true to form and character, the team bounced straight back and beat Hilton on their oval by 10 wickets. Unfortunately, losses to St Charles and Michaelhouse followed, before Northwood was beaten by 10-wickets. It was sad that lightning had the final say against St Charles in our last match of the season, with Dylan Wiggett and Hayden Bishop looking very comfortable at the crease. Nevertheless, the team ended as the top-ranked cricket team in the province and 8th in the country -an incredible feat from a fantastic group of young men. Notable mentions must go to Hayden Bishop and Ross Coetzee, who made the KZN U19 team, with Hayden Bishop as Captain of the provincial side. Cameron Veenstra, Murray Weyer, Ryan Browning and Sandiswa Yeni made the KZN U17 provincial team. Jack O’Donovan was selected as Captain of the Kingsmead Mynahs XI. We had no doubt that they would give a good account of themselves on the various cricket fields around the country. Special thanks go to the colonel, Mr André van Zyl, the 1st XI Manager/Coach. Your unwavering support, guidance and mentorship of the boys and the team are unmatched, and on behalf of the team and the wider cricketing community, we thank you for your efforts.
