The boys showed their composure in a tense victory, demonstrating the team’s skill and determination. The lads were on a winning streak, with two quality wins against Glenwood and DHS. Unfortunately, the run of good form ended, with losses against Hilton and Westville. We met Clifton in our last fixture of the Term 1 summer sports programme and the boys were desperate to bounce back after two tough games. The team rose to the challenge to secure a convincing win. After a long and tiring term, the boys met with two weeks to go of Term 3 to prepare for a grudge match against Maritzburg College. The boys were keen to kickstart the season on a positive note. Unfortunately, the result did not go our way. To begin the final term of their grade 8 journeys, the main message was for the boys to enjoy their remaining cricket games and to represent the College to the best of their abilities. We began the term with an exciting double-header against Hilton and St. Charles in the new and popular 100-ball format. In the hot Maritzburg sun, we walked away with a win over Hilton and a disappointing loss against St Charles. With exams fast approaching, anxiety levels were high, but I appreciated the boys’ efforts and attitude towards their cricket. The season finished with games against Michaelhouse and DHS, on the return fixture, Northwood and St Charles. It was an awesome season, to say the least. I would like to applaud the boys’ effort over the course of the season. They displayed a never-say-die attitude, which is all I could ask for as a coach. Special mention must go to Mr. Vivek Sookdavu, whose energy had a positive influence on the team. Lastly, thank you to the parents for their continuous support throughout the year. Mr Luke van As Mr Vivek Sookdavu Coaches Under 14C Cricket The 2023 cricket season proved to be a challenging journey for the U14C team, as they faced an uphill battle throughout, managing to secure only one victory, against Michaelhouse. Despite the disappointment, the season was not without its moments. The U14C team encountered difficulties in the batting department, with inconsistent performances from key players. The top order struggled to establish partnerships, resulting in below-par totals in several matches. Batsmen found converting starts into substantial scores challenging, putting additional pressure on the middle- and lower-order. The bowling unit, too, faced its share of challenges, struggling to pick up wickets consistently and contain opposition batsmen. Despite this, there were some impressive bowling spells, although too many extras were regularly conceded. The lone victory in the season came in a hard-fought contest that showcased the team’s potential. Despite the limited success, this win was a testament to the team’s resilience and ability to overcome adversity. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the team for their commitment and Mr Govender for giving up his time to umpire on a Saturday.
