Chronicle-2023

141 140 U14B Hockey This season proved to be a great stepping stone for these individuals and the team. Although the season was difficult, based on the judgment of micro goals, it was an absolute pleasure to coach these young boys. The determination and resilience displayed by these boys would make any Kearsney alumnus proud. They fought hard regardless of the score, focusing on effectively executing their skills and teamwork. Their dedicated training and consistent performances culminated in an impressive victory against Maritzburg College. I eagerly anticipate seeing everyone grow and thrive both on and off the hockey field in the future. Each boy will pursue personal growth, creating lasting memories with their peers on the field. Regular players: Matthew de Gryse, Chase Duthie, Max East, Adam Georgiadis, Matthew Gorrie, Keegan Howes, Stavros Karabachos, James Lubbe, Nikita Mahlasela, Sanele Mkhize, Luke Munro, Nande Mzobe, Okona Ngcobo, Luke Smith, Kei Wren, Khulekani Zuma Mr Cameron Gordon Coach U14C Hockey The season began with a strong turnout of boys each week, and the numbers increased so significantly that we introduced a D team for this age group. The U14C team consisted of enthusiastic players who consistently showed up and gave their all in both practice and matches. They had a robust defense that was tough to break through, a diligent midfield, and an aggressive forward line that boldly attacked the opposition’s goals, taking shots even if they missed. With continued practice, this group of players is expected to provide substantial depth to the higher age groups as they advance through Kearsney in the coming years. Regular players: Tyla Bricknell, Tshepi Matlakala, Siseko Mhanyisa, Nande Mzobe, Khalipha Nxumalo, Keegan Howes, Fanele Nzimande, James Lubbe, Kei Wren, Luke Smith, Adam Kennedy (Captain), Jack Sternberg, Thomas Mowat, Troy Thompson Results: Played 9, Won 3, Lost 4, Drew 2 Mr Wayne Amos Coach U14D Hockey The 2023 hockey season for the U14D team was filled with positivity and enjoyment, and I couldn’t be prouder of the boys’ progress. I joined the team after our initial two games, during which we had two draws. The boys were eager to enhance their performance and transform those draws into victories. Throughout the season, every practice session saw significant improvement in their skills. By our final session, the team had undergone a remarkable transformation. In the remaining six games, we only experienced one defeat against a strong DHS team, where we narrowly lost 0-1. Our wins came against Maritzburg College, St Charles and Hilton. The Hilton win was the highlight of the season for me. Going 0-2 down at halftime, I reminded the boys just how good they were and what we had been working toward. We came back and won 5-2 thanks to a brilliant hat trick of goals from Troy Thompson. It was an absolute honour to coach these boys, and I look forward to seeing their progress in the future.
