Chronicle-2023

159 158 Under 15B Rugby The results did not always go our way, but this team had a lot of fun this season and they grew as individuals and as a team Each player improved his game to contribute towards better performances. We started the season against Clifton, where our boys managed to post over 50 points, with the game being called off after halftime. Unfortunately, this was the only game we won in the season. The team learnt many lessons along the way and showed constant improvement. We always looked to learn from the games and the boys’ knowledge and game management improved. The boys took it upon themselves to change their attitude towards the game and started to enjoy the game of rugby. I feel these boys have much more to give and, with some growth, they will become strong men on and off the field. I am excited to follow them next year! Regular players: Rayyan Ahmad, James Benningfield, Thomas Buchan, Joshua-Peter Clark, Luca Giai-Minietti, Tristan Louw, Bulumko Mahlasela, Lesego Mbileni, Jack McReynolds, Sibonga Miya, Alwande Mkhize, Oliver Mowat, Luhle Ndlovu, Cameron Nel, Dale Ramsay, Thomas Reay, Mlangazeli Sibiya, Nathan van Jaarsveld Results: Played 9, Lost 9 Mr Jody Saayman Coach RUGBY UNDER 14A TEAM Back row (L-R): Harry Hughes, Tunga Griffiths, Ian Gourlay, Njabulo Sigasa, Hluma Mnqokoyi, Matthew Wilson 3rd row: Daniel Hunwick, Ntsikelelo Makeleni, Wandile Sibisi, Luyanda Sithole, Thabani Mthethwa, Max Mills 2nd row: Reece York, Sebastian Hunwick, Troy Bizzell, Msizi Ndawonde, Thabiso Khanyile, Mpi Mthethwa Front row: Mcebisi Zulu, James Whatmore, Mr Waylon Murray, Clement Makelele, Mr Luke van As, Robert Gelderman, Daniel Miskey A talented group of players joined us in Grade 8 and we looked forward to moulding the individuals into an effective team, focusing on the team culture and the style with which we wanted to play. The coaching staff believed that we coach people and that creating athletes is imperative. We wanted the boys to focus on their performances and development, not just on results. Our objective was to instil in the team the values of discipline, honesty, hard work and humility. It was important to establish a good culture with the team and the boys were expected to live up to high expectations around behaviour, attitude, appearance and teamwork. The team collectively decided upon a number of goals for the season, including respect for and trust in one another, staying positive, being connected to one another and playing as a team. We believed that with the talent in the team and with the right team culture we should aim for 80% win rate and to be in the Top 10 in the country. The season included many highlights, including achieving three out of three wins at the Skonk Nicholson Festival and some outstanding performances against Glenwood, DHS and Hilton. A memorable highlight was Wandile Mcebisi jumping into the DHS pool, in full rugby kit, to retrieve a ball as there was not much time left for the team to try and beat DHS. The entire squad contributed enormously to the successful season and I thank them for their positive attitudes and hard work. The following players performed consistently throughout the season: Clement Makelele, Bisi Zulu, James Whatmore, Robert Gelderman, Luyanda Sithole, Hluma Mnqokoyi, Max Mills and Daniel Miskey. We trained as a squad, and the A and B teams trained together, which helped with any changes. The teams performed superbly throughout the season and I congratulate the boys on reaching their goals.
