Chronicle-2023

171 170 3rd Soccer The 2023 season was one of mixed results for the 3rd XI. I stepped up to coach the team after the first match against Hilton. The boys showed impressive performances on the field, with Chiluba displaying amazing goalkeeping skills, Christie’s goal-scoring prowess, and Radford’s ballplaying abilities standing out. The team’s dedication was evident and the players gave 100%. They enjoyed their practices and demonstrated passion for their school and commitment to their fellow players. While the overall record may reflect only two victories, the season provided valuable learning experiences that contributed to the players' development. This matric group showed great spirit and played their hearts out every weekend. The squad had some great characters and a great team environment. To all the boys who represented this team, thank you for your commitment to Kearsney College. Actualising their talent and aiming to enjoy their “competitive” soccer matches, the season was filled with many goals, laughter, and memorable victories. Each victory was made sweeter by their parents' exuberant support, which always adds a special dimension to schoolboy fixtures. This team epitomised having fun while doing what you love. It was truly inspiring to witness their willingness to help others succeed. The team was focused and diligent. They brought an infectious energy to training and match days, making every day enjoyable and engaging for everyone involved. Their positive attitude and enthusiasm motivated their peers to actively participate and strive for excellence. Overall, I am incredibly proud of the 6th team's achievements. Congratulations on an amazing season and the Senior Team of the Year award. Regular players: Bongani Dlamini, Kyle Pottinger, Thomas Godwin, Otsile Ntsele, Harvey Millard, Connor Mills, Caleb Fyvie, Simthembile Mkhize, Salusiwe Mqobongo, Matthew Langeland-Hansen, Zwelitsha Sibanyoni, Michael de Beer Results: Played 6, Won 5, Drew 1 Mr Kwanele Ngema Coach 8th Soccer After a nervous start to the season (1-3 loss to Hilton College), the team tightened their defence and tightly marked the opposition attackers. This resulted in fewer goals being scored against the team, and with the strikers starting to get their shots on the opposition's goals, this team started to play more cohesively. From then on, this team won most of their games, with special wins against Northwood School (3-1), Michaelhouse (20) and Clifton College (6-2). This resulted in a successful season, with the team winning the majority of their games and enjoying the weekend matches playing with their friends. Regular players: Kyle Mackay, Matthew McGill, Ryan Browning, Joshua Velissariou, Asavela Khambule, Jack White, Julian Carbonel, Robert Franz, Luke Maritz, Sean Mayoss, Max Buchan, Pranav Sewsunker, Patrick Rocher, Dylan Howard, James Peirson Results: Played 7, Won 4, Drew 2, Lost 1 Mr Daniel Bekker Coach 9th Soccer This group of friends, headed up by captain Ryan Smith, formed a soccer side where enjoyment was the name of the game. The players always turned out for practices and everyone attempted to play different positions to find their strengths for the team. With little success, the results on a Saturday were insignificant for this group, but enjoyment certainly became the priority. Most of the games were very close losses, but the players all improved their skills and understanding of the tactics involved in soccer and, hopefully, will appreciate the game even more when watching professional matches. Regular players: Daniel Bothma, Jasper Bruno, Jarred Fitt, Dylan Howard, Matthew Huson, Matthew Olivier, Nathan Stocks, Daniel Schneemann, Ryan Smith (Captain), Jack Ried, Chad Wilson, Connor Wilson, Liam Steinhobel, Daniel van Jaarsveld Results: Played: 6, Drew 2, Lost 4 Mr Daniel Bekker Coach 10th Soccer This team was made up of a mixture of characters with different abilities, superbly organised by Aiden Albrecht. Practises consisted of a few drills to help the players develop their individual skills, followed by a game against one of the more competitive Kearsney teams. This helped the players improve their tactical awareness of the game and bonded them so that they knew each other's strengths and weaknesses when they played matches. This helped, as this team often played more competent opposition but was always competitive, often losing by a margin of only a single goal. The huge presence of Thomas Hulse in goals also prevented the opposition from scoring too many goals, keeping the team in the game right until the last minute. The energy of Dylan van Tonder and Jua van Wyk in midfield allowed the team to attack often and score some nice goals. This was a very enjoyable team to manage as they always arrived for matches and gave their best. Regular players: Seth Abrahams, Thomas Hulse, Nicolas Butler, Sachin Bhagwan, Aidan Albrecht (Captain), Jack Rankin, Ethan Marnitz, Nthato Sifumba, Dylan van Tonder, Jua van Wyk, Ross Williams, Jake du Buisson Results: Played 4, Won 1, Drew 2, Lost 1 Mr Wayne Amos Manager Open team soccer
