It was an evening of exciting swimming which saw Finningley emerge victorious over Gillingham, and Pembroke and Sheffield battle it out for third and fourth place, respectively. Outstanding performances on the evening saw Luca Sandri awarded the Jollands Cup for the Senior Victor Ludorum and James Beningfield the Wessels Trophy for the Junior Victor Ludorum. The team left the following day to tour Gauteng, swimming in both the Affies and Alan Burt galas. Although the competition was tough, the boys acquitted themselves well and showed true fighting spirit. The team participated in four local galas in Term 1 – the St Anne’s co-educational gala, the Nestor Pierides gala (Westville Boys’ High), the D&D gala and finally, the Top 10 gala on 28 February. Despite many challenges, the boys gave their best event after event and gala after gala. We thank Mr Gregg Higgs for his involvement with the school’s swimming team for the term. Congratulations to Luca Sandri (Grade 10) won two golds for SA at the BRICS U20 Games in Durban in October. Luca was part of the men’s 100m freestyle and 50m freestyle relay team, which won gold in the two events. Mrs Charmaine Vermeulen Team Manager
