Tennis TENNIS TEAM Back row (L-R): Jason Denekamp, Angus Fyvie, Ryan Smith, Connor van Heerden Front row: Finn Coningham, Mr Anthony Willows, Caleb Fyvie, Keegan Gevers Grey College Tennis Tournament 20 to 22 October (Stayers’ Event) The top tennis schools which participated in this tournament were Kearsney College, Grey College, Paarl Boys, Paul Roos, St Stithians, Hoërskool Outeniqua and Hoërskool Waterkloof. The extremely high level of tennis at the tournament reflected the healthy state of tennis at the school level. Our team, of mostly young players, relished the opportunity to play against players from other schools with high national rankings, learning valuable lessons and improving their level of play. The weather conditions on the first day were challenging, with it being sweltering and windy, but our boys showed fortitude. Round-robin stage Kearsney vs Hoërskool Waterkloof: lost 0-7 Kearsney vs Grey College:lost 0-7 Kearsney vs St Stithians: lost 1-6 Cross overs The match against Outeniqua was rained out. This was unfortunate as both teams were evenly matched, and it would have been a good contest. Kearsney played Affies in the positional playoffs in tightly contested matches where the Kearsney team dug deep and played some gutsy tennis, but Affies eventually beat Kearsney 4-1.
